Launchpad vs. Other Thumb Guards: What Makes It Different

Launchpad vs. Other Thumb Guards: What Makes It Different

There are a couple other thumb guards out there. We're sure you've heard of them - ProHitter, ThumbPro, Hit Hero. We found these to be sup-par solutions. They are one-style-fits-all, built with rigid or bulky plastic, or designed without much thought to how hitters actually use them. It’s gear that technically works, but not gear that’s built with intention.

Launchpad was created to change that. We spent years crafting our thumb guards alongside elite baseball players. Whether you're looking for a thumb protector to stop bat sting, a batting trainer, or a general hitting aid, we got you covered.

Here’s how it compares to other thumb guards on the market, and why those details matter.

Fit That Makes Sense

A one-size-fits-all thumb guard is convenient for a manufacturer, but not for a player. Your left and right hands aren’t the same. Your swing path, grip, and pressure points are different depending on your anatomy and technique.

Launchpad comes in two distinct models - OG and Max - and each of those comes in separate models for left-handed and right-handed hitters. These models respond to different player preferences such as bat grip size and placement in your hand (learn more). In addition, the hand-specific design eliminates awkward shifting and gives you a cleaner, more natural connection with your bat.

A Channel Built for Control

Most thumb guards sit loosely between your bat and your hand. That creates movement, which creates inconsistency.

Launchpad has a patented bat-shaped channel that wraps around the handle. It creates a secure hold that keeps your grip locked in. That structure matters when timing is everything and small changes can throw off your swing. The channel also includes pivot points that mimic the natural feeling of your bat against the contours of your hand.

Built by Players

A lot of thumb guards are clearly made without firsthand experience. When gear feels generic or gets in the way, that’s usually why.

Launchpad is built by people who play. We launched our original product, and while that was the perfect solution for lots of players, we heard from many more who wanted it even more tailored to their preferences. We took all of that feedback and launched a second model.

Every curve, angle, and material choice came from experience at the plate and feedback from actual hitters. It’s gear that makes sense because it was designed by people who use it.

Comfort and Protection That Lasts

Some thumb guards are stiff and take forever to break in. Others are so soft they start to wear out after a week. Neither is built to perform long-term.

Launchpad is made from a custom material blend that balances durability with flexibility. It feels good from day one, holds up to daily reps, and doesn’t compromise the feel of your bat.

The Bottom Line

Launchpad isn’t an accessory. It’s a small but intentional part of your gear that makes a difference when you’re locked in at the plate.

If your current guard feels like it was built for someone else’s swing, maybe it’s time to use one that was built for yours.

Ready to take your plate appearances to the next level? Take your pick.
